Typical applications for air leg separators are in separating -: Lighter weight unformed or black spotted Walnuts from heavier ones. Chestnuts or Walnuts from husk pieces, burr pieces, grass, and leaves. Walnuts or Hazelnut kernels from shell pieces after cracking.
Seed shells from kernels after cracking. Garlic cloves from loose cover leaves.
The product is fed at a steady rate into the inlet chute of the separator and passes through a vertical air tunnel which has air flow adjusted to suit the product being separated. The heavier or more aerodynamic particles fall through the air stream and out of the bottom chute, while the lighter or less aerodynamic particles are carried in the air flow out of the top ducting.
